Why Hypnosis and Nutrition Work For Permanent Weight Loss

hypnosis and nutrition.jpeg

Why We use a mixture of Hypnosis and Nutrition to help you lose weight and keep it off

Hypnosis for weight loss sounds like a dichotomy to some people, because it sub verses everything that everyone has thought as the best way to shed weight.

What if I were to tell you that you could lose those inches off your waist just by relaxing and learning a little about good nutrition ?

Lose those extra kilos just by prompting your mind to increase the metabolism, and instructing it to curb binging and snacking?

You might even be feeling exasperated at this suggestion; because you spent hundreds of pounds trying to sweat it out in the gym; you are losing precious sleep over that early morning jog, and worse still you have been on a crash diet for the last two weeks only to find out that there is an easier and more effective way of getting back your curves!

Hypnosis for weight loss is not a stop gap method of losing weight, mind you; it is a way of changing your entire lifestyle.

Hypnosis for weight loss does not prescribe special diets or routine exercises directly, but instead helps in empowering you to make necessary lifestyle changes for the new you.

As is its nature, hypnotherapy for weight loss works on the power of positive suggestion. Through repeated sessions of self hypnosis you can train and educate your mind to automatically choose food which is healthy for you, as well as control over eating.

I have always mentioned that our little brain has more power than we can ever imagine, and that the subconscious is a veritable gold mine; the only problem is that most of us haven’t started digging yet.

The moment we start tapping into its potential, we will truly realize its powers. Remember that our subconscious can be trained into doing things that you want; and this training can be provided by regular self-hypnosis sessions.

Working on the principle of auto-feed, you will be able to train your mind to do anything…including slimming down.

The first step towards getting into shape through hypnosis is to understand what really the problem is. What is the root cause of your binging? Why can’t you help but reach out for dollops of ice-cream every time you are down?

Through the use of analytical hypnosis, we can figure out the underlying issue and then work the hypnotherapy sessions around it.

Yes, hypnosis for weight loss is customized depending upon the your situation. A therapist will need to understand what sends you gravitating towards food – is it low self confidence, self image, depression, reward eating, or comfort eating?

Based on the analysis, a suitable hypnosis routine can be worked out for you.

The second stage here is called suggestion therapy, where you will put the power of positive suggestion to good use. By suggesting to your subconscious what’s good for it and what isn’t you will be shaping your own future, which will definitely be leaner and fitter than your past.

Through making positive reinforcements about yourself and your eating habits to your mind you will be gently molding it to follow a healthier diet and better eating habits.

Hypnosis for weight loss is one of the easiest and most long lasting ways of losing weight and keeping it that way. So go ahead, try hypnotherapy and lose those kilos simply by relaxing!

10 Steps to Overcoming Social Anxiety

social anxiety.jpg

You are not alone. We surveyed 43,819 people on one of our courses about what their biggest confidence issue is. More than a third said their biggest fears involved socialising and other people

  • Do You feel lonely, but the thought of being with other people is frightening?

  • You're churning with anxiety when you're out socially, but you hate always being alone?

  • It gets frustrating and it feels like there's no way out. But there is.

  • Hypnosis is a natural and fast way of changing your emotions about socializing

  • Hypnosis changes the way your unconscious mind reacts to situations, or imagined situations. It gently and naturally eases your fears about socializing and your anxiety over not being liked so that social confidence becomes a natural part of your personality.

  • In this program we use hypnosis (as well as exercises and practice) to make you feel confident and calm about socializing

Brain scans of lonely people have shown that loneliness causes activity in the same parts of the brain that register physical pain.

The Best Way to live the life of your dreams is to start living the life of your dreams today .. in every little way you possibly can

Mike Dooley - Featured in The Secret

One of the most important things to address before you begin any mind, body or soul wellness transformation program is your mind set..

You may well be interested in something but there is a whole world of difference between being interested and being committed.

So how do you get prepared to be committed to that wellness programme ?? Or that weight loss challenge or to your spiritual growth ??

Please take some quiet time to take this pre - consultation with yourself, to really look at your past and your present wellness / weight / spiritual path etc

Ask yourself these empowering questions

  1. Is what I’m currently doing working for me ?? Or against me ?

  2. If I continue my present lifestyle where will I be in 1 year / 2 years / 5 years

  3. Am I living my life to my full potential ?

  4. Am I totally happy with my life right now ?

  5. If I don’t make the necessary changes in my life starting today where will my life end up ?

  6. Am I ready for these changes ? To prove to myself that I can take control of my life and my future ?

  7. Do I understand that during my lifestyle change journey there will be times when I feel frustrated, have growing pains etc .. and that i must use persistence to push through these barriers

  8. Do I feel that I am worthwhile making these changes for myself and my future or could that be part of the problem ??

Feel free to share your answers .. if there are questions that you don’t feel comfortable answering or you can’t or don’t take the time to answer them even if you want to make changes

Then maybe ask yourself WHY … WHY aren’t I taking this time to look at myself and my circumstances ?? When probably if someone else asked me to help them go through the questionnaire I’d be happy to do so ??

This could be for numerous reasons, maybe subconsciously, deep down inside your frightened to make the changes , or maybe you don’t think you’re worth the effort, whatever the reason these issues can be overcome .. our brains are quite elastic and they just need to be reprogrammed … after all the bad habit you have now is only learnt behaviour … whether you wanted to learn it or not somewhere along the line you did: whether consciously or subconsciously and the good news is because you learnt the behaviour you no longer want ,.. guess what ! .. you can unlearn it

No matter whether you want to lose weigh , get into an exercise regime, eat more healthily, look after your mental, emotional or spiritual health … you can do it !! and do you know what you deserve to … in fact I’d even go as far to say you owe it to yourself to make these changes and become the best version of you that you can be

That doesn’t mean I want you to start feeling guilty or bad about what you may or may not be doing after-all, I mentioned its only learnt behaviour and I’m pretty sure that for some of you you didn’t want or mean to learn some of the habits you may have picked up

So forget all that and start from today do 1 thing that your future self will thank you for

Get Your Relationship Back on Track?

relationship.jpg

Relationships are a very meaningful part of our lives, and can bring us a great deal of happiness and fulfilment. Strong connections with our loved ones, friends and work colleagues allow us to be at our healthiest and most productive, and for many these relationships offer an important source of advice, guidance, love and support.

However, fulfilling and supportive relationships don’t come automatically, and they require good social skills and a great deal of time and energy to stay strong and go the distance. Sometimes meaningful connections break down, which can leave people feeling lonely, disappointed and unsure of what to do. In some cases our relationships may not be fulfilling our expectations, which can impact our happiness and life satisfaction. On the other hand, some people may crave close friendships and/or romantic relationships but find them very difficult to come by.

Whatever the relationship issue, there is help available in the form of relationship counselling. In this setting a counsellor will work with couples or individuals to explore their needs and what they want from their relationships, while offering support and advice to help them get their relationship(s) back on track.

Why do we need good relationships?

Human beings are naturally very sociable. We enjoy the company of others and crave positive interactions and meaningful friendships. To some extent good relationships are just as important for our survival as food and water, and this can explain why our health and happiness suffers when our relationships go wrong. Therefore, the better our relationships work, the happier and healthier we are going to be.

Extensive research has shown that people with satisfying relationships are likely to have fewer health problems and live longer. In contrast, those who do not have many social connections tend to show signs of depression and cognitive decline. Relationship counselling is focused primarily on making sure relationship issues are dealt with in a way that supports the health and well-being of those involved.

In the workplace, having good relationships with colleagues and others in the professional circle boosts productivity and is valuable for career development. Being on good terms with your boss means you are more likely to be considered if a new position opens up. There is also a sense of freedom to having good relationships. Rather than spending our time and energy overcoming obstacles associated with relationship issues, we are focused on opportunities and personal development.

What defines a good relationship?

All relationships are unique, but there are several characteristics that can signify strong, healthy connections. These include:

  • Trust - Relationships are built on trust, which is essential for good communication and forming strong bonds. Without trust, relationships are unlikely to survive.

  • Mindfulness - Being mindful of what you do and say means you are more likely to maintain strong relationships. Relationship issues can arise if you let your negative emotions affect others.

  • Mutual respect - Strong supportive relationships rely heavily on mutual respect, as it fosters understanding of each other's needs and values.

  • Good communication - Your relationships will be richer if you make an effort to keep in contact with those around you. Being honest and open with others also allows for you to connect deeply and build long lasting bonds.

In relationship counselling, I work with clients to resolve relationship issues bearing in mind the above characteristics to explore exactly why things have gone wrong and how problems can be overcome.

Types of relationship issues

Relationship issues vary considerably, depending on the nature of the relationship and the circumstances that have led to problems. I work with a wide range of couples and individuals who are experiencing difficulties, and below is a brief exploration of the most common types of relationship issues that are addressed in counselling.

Affairs and betrayals

Betraying your spouse or a close friend can cause a great deal of damage to your relationship, as it destroys all sense of trust. Whether it's an affair, financial secrets or a hidden addiction, betrayal can be very painful and in some cases leads to the end of the relationship. However, a great number of people will want to work through a betrayal in order to overcome the pain and rebuild the relationship.

Separation and divorce

Sometimes couples will decide to separate or divorce without taking into account the practicalities or whether the relationship could be saved. Separation counselling provides an opportunity for a breakup to be explored before a final decision is made - helping couples to get closure and move forward in a way that is healthy for their individual needs.

Pre-nuptial issues

Some couples seek extra support and advice on how to prepare themselves should the relationship break down or encounter difficulties in the future. Relationships are naturally full of ups and downs, so pre-nuptial counselling can help couples to be aware of certain stressors they may encounter in different stages of the relationship (i.e. following the birth of a child).

Family issues

Our relationships with family members form an integral part of our lives, and when these become strained it can cause a lot of pain and disappointment. In some cases it may just be one family member that is causing a rift, or relationship issues may have built up over time and have never properly been addressed. Family counselling provides a safe and supportive environment where family members can communicate openly and listen to each other.

Cross-cultural relation

Relationships involve two people coming together from different backgrounds to build a new unit. While for many this process is relatively straightforward, for others their differences can be too prominent to come to a compromise. Counselling helps couples to better understand each other's beliefs and values in order to move forward with the relationship in a way that blends differences in a healthy way.

Answering Hypnotherapy's Most Frequent Questions

hypnosis FAQ's.png

What is hypnosis?

The definition of hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state of concentration. To some, the concept of being relaxed and focused at the same time seems an oxymoron, but hypnosis allows you to enter such a state of mind.

t was presumed until recently that it was a sleep-like state, or that the mind was unconscious. Actually, there is a state which the brain enters into. It has been discovered on scans during hypnosis that in this state, the mind is highly receptive to suggestion. It is not an unusual or unpleasant state of mind; most people simply feel relaxed. There is an alteration in brain wave activity, called the alpha state. This is a very pleasant, relaxing state, but during which the mind is alert, responsive, and open to a rich sensory experience.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

In the hands of a properly trained individual, hypnosis is not dangerous. There may be some circumstances which would be undesirable with an untrained hypnotist, but nothing serious could happen. If you are seeking hypnotherapy, always ensure that the practitioner is registered with a professional body with a code of conduct that you can review.

Can hypnosis make me do something against my will?

This is one of the biggest myths surrounding hypnosis. Stage hypnotists choose their subjects carefully so that they will have participants who would be willing to act outrageously. You will never do anything, or accept any suggestion that violates your morals or values. If that was possible, hypnotists could make you rob banks and bring back the money. The hypnotists would be rich and rule the world. Clearly, this is not the case. If you visit a hypnotherapist wanting to seek help with a phobia, and approach your session with an open mind and a willingness for the therapy to work, these is a good chance that your session will have a positive outcome.

Can anybody be hypnotised?

Almost everyone can be hypnotised. There are a few exceptions, however. Some examples are educationally subnormal individuals, people suffering from senility, very young children, hard drug addicts and individuals under the influence of alcohol.

A Brief History of Hypnosis

Where does hypnosis come from? Discover the roots of hypnosis with this brief history of this fascinating subject.

where does hypnosis come from.jpg

Evidence of hypnotic-like phenomena appears in many ancient cultures. The writer of Genesis seems familiar with the anaesthetic power of hypnosis when he reports that God put Adam "into a deep sleep" to take his rib to form Eve. Other ancient records suggest hypnosis was used by the oracle at Delphi and in rites in ancient Egypt (Hughes and Rothovius, 1996). The modern history of hypnosis begins in the late 1700s, when a French physician, Anton Mesmer, revived an interest in hypnosis.

1734-1815 Franz Anton Mesmer was born in Vienna. Mesmer is considered the father of hypnosis. He is remembered for the term mesmerism which described a process of inducing trance through a series of passes he made with his hands and/or magnets over people. He worked with a person’s animal magnetism (psychic and electromagnetic energies). The medical community eventually discredited him despite his considerable success treating a variety of ailments. His successes offended the medical establishment of the time, who arranged for an official French government investigating committee. This committee included Benjamin Franklin, then the American ambassador to France, and Joseph Guillotine, a French physician who introduced a never-fail device for physically separating the mind from the rest of the body.

1795-1860 James Braid, an English physician, originally opposed to mesmerism (as it had become known) who subsequently became interested. He said that cures were not due to animal magnetism however, they were due to suggestion. He developed the eye fixation technique (also known as Braidism) of inducing relaxation and called it hypnosis (after Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep) as he thought the phenomena was a form of sleep. Later, realising his error, he tried to change the name to monoeidism (meaning influence of a single idea)however, the original name stuck. 1825-1893 Jean Marie Charcot a French neurologist, disagreed with the Nancy School of Hypnotism and contended that hypnosis was simply a manifestation of hysteria. There was bitter rivalry between Charcot and the Nancy group (Liebault and Bernheim). He revived Mesmer’s theory of Animal Magnetism and identified the three stages of trance; lethargy, catalepsy and somnambulism.

1845-1947 Pierre Janet was a French neurologist and psychologist who was initially opposed to the use of hypnosis until he discovered its relaxing effects and promotion of healing. Janet was one of the few people who continued to show an interest in hypnosis during the psychoanalytical rage.

1849-1936 Ivan Petrovich Pavlov - Russian psychologist who actually was more focused on the study of the digestive process. He is known primarily for his development of the concept of the conditioned reflex (or Stimulus Response Theory). In his classic experiment, he trained hungry dogs to salivate at the sound of a bell, which was previously associated with the sight of food. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology in 1904 for his work on digestive secretions. Though he had nothing to do with hypnosis, his Stimulus Response Theory is a cornerstone in linking and anchoring behaviours, particularly in NLP.

1857-1926 Emile Coue, a physician who formulated the Laws of Suggestion. He is also known for encouraging his patients to say to themselves 20-30 times a night before going to sleep; "Everyday in every way, I am getting better and better." He also discovered that delivering positive suggestions when prescribing medication proved to be a more effective cure than prescribing medications alone. He eventually abandoned the concept of hypnosis in favour of just using suggestion, feeling hypnosis and the hypnotic state impaired the efficiency of the suggestion.

Coue’s Laws of Suggestion

The Law of Concentrated Attention

" Whenever attention is concentrated on an idea over and over again, it spontaneously tends to realise itself"

The Law of Reverse Action

"The harder one tries to do something, the less chance one has of success"

The Law of Dominant Effect

"A stronger emotion tends to replace a weaker one"

1856-1939 Sigmund Freud travelled to Nancy and studied with Liebault and Bernheim, and then did additional study with Charcot. Freud did not incorporate hypnosis in his therapeutic work however because he felt he could not hypnotise patients to a sufficient depth, felt that the cures were temporary, and that hynosis stripped patients of their defences. Freud was considered a poor hypnotist given his paternal manner. However, his clients often went into trance and he often, unknowingly, performed non-verbal inductions when he would place his hand on his patient’s head to signify the Doctor dominant, patient submissive roles. Because of his early dismissal of hypnosis in favour of psychoanalysis, hypnosis was almost totally ignored.

1875-1961 Carl Jung, a student and colleague of Freud’s, rejected Freud’s psychoanalytical approach and developed his own interests. He developed the concept of the collective unconscious and archetypes. Though he did not actively use hypnosis, he encouraged his patients to use active imagination to change old memories. He often used the concept of the inner guide, in the healing work. He believed that the inner mind could be accessed through tools like the I Ching and astrology. He was rejected by the conservative medical community as a mystic. However, many of his ideas and theories are actively embraced by healers to this day.

1932-1974 Milton Erickson, a psychologist and psychiatrist pioneered the art of indirect suggestion in hypnosis. He is considered to be the father of modern hypnosis. His methods bypassed the conscious mind through the use of both verbal and nonverbal pacing techniques including metaphor, confusion, and many others. He was a colourful character and has immensely influenced the practice of contemporary hypnotherapy, and its official acceptance by the AMA. His work, combined with the work of Satir and Perls, was the basis for Bandler and Grinder’s Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
