Beat Stress And Anxiety Using These 4 Techniques

Beat Stress And Anxiety Using These 4 Techniques

Do you get the feeling there is so much more to life than you are able to grab hold of right now? Perhaps you get the sense that certain things are holding you back - stress, anxiety, fear, hopelessness, shyness - and that if you could simply overcome these barriers, you could take the world by storm! With these 4 powerful techniques, you can finally bring some light back into your life.

Have you ever met anyone who didn't feel they had stress in their lives? I can't say that I have every come across anyone who said to me "I have no stress in my life, I feel at peace all the time"

In fact, most of the people I come across are paralysed by stress and anxiety - without even knowing it, they have let stress slowly build in their lives, little by little, without even realising that it was impacting their relationships, happiness, career, health and entire lifestyle.

Let me ask you these important questions:

1. Have you felt trapped - like a caged monkey who can't seem to break free no matter how hard you try?

2. Have you all but given in to the pressures of life and find yourself often drifting through days, months even years without really accomplishing anything substantial?

3. Do you have more unhappy moments than you can remember in the past?

4. Do you find that even when you do get a spare moment, that you can't seem to really enjoy the things you used to?

Chances are negative stress has eaten away at your life, here's 4 ways to reduce the stress you feel now...

1. Recognise and realise that stress is a response you have to things that occur in your life. This may seem less than powerful, but in fact, if you convince yourself that you control your response to stress, you gain hope and belief that you can really make changes to lower your stress response in your life.

2. Take time for you. Many people take from us, our employers, friends, children, even the media and society at large. Its tempting to just give in and give up the piece of your day that must belong to you. By giving up your private relaxation, personal thinking or meditation time you are NOT benefiting those around you, in the long-run you are giving up control, allowing more stress into your life which will result in you being LESS effective to those around you.

3. Exercise. Its not necessary to instantly become an exercise fanatic. Too many of us think in terms of all or nothing. Start by committing to a morning, lunch hour or evening walk 3 times a week for at least 40-minutes. If you prefer a gym, then start slow and build up an exercise regime. Not only will this benefit you in terms of personal image, weight loss, energy gain, but it has been scientifically proven that exercise produces chemicals in your brain that help you overcome stress.

4. Become more self-aware. Its often the case that when we feel most stressed, we also feel that we have lost who we really are. In fact, losing a sense of what is really important to us is one of the biggest factors preventing people from pulling out of feelings of stress and hopelessness. Yoga and meditation are incredibly powerful techniques that are both simple to learn (at least the basics), and can lead to incredible changes from the inside out to alter the stress balance in our lives.

Yoga and meditation will take some up-front commitment, but within a few weeks of consistently practicing these principles, you can experience some very dramatic changes in your ability to handle stress.

With the majority of our population being paralysed by the inabiltiy to control stress leading to anxiety, it is perhaps one of the most desctructive forces threatening today's society.

At an individual level, you have the ability to change your level of stress dramatically, but that change must come from within and it must start with your own belief that indeed, you can control your response to stress. Following the four principles outlined above will certainly allow you to quickly overcome the limitations of stress and anxiety in your life.

Coping With A Nervous Breakdown

Coping with a Nervous Breakdown

Deep relaxation can ease your stressed brain and give you back a sense of control and perspective

If you feel close to having a nervous breakdown right now you are probably feeling like you have hit rock bottom.

Many people who are close to a nervous breakdown feel a million miles from their real self.

Feelings of anger, negativity, exhaustion and anxiety are probably overwhelming you and your ability to lead a 'normal' life and have 'normal' relationships is no doubt proving tough.

The right approach can help quickly

Nervous breakdowns tend to happen due to a demanding lifestyle, stress, or as a result of dealing with trauma. Stress and anxiety can often lead to depression and feelings of being unable to cope.

You may feel at the moment that everything is a struggle and there is nothing positive in your life. However, treating a breakdown in the right way will allow you to come out the 'other side' of this an even better person.

Here's how I can help you…..

Relaxation is the key to recovery

Stopping for a while and taking time to relax when you feel things are getting too much will gradually allow your body and mind to start to feel refreshed and re-energised again. Regular relaxation will also help 'reset' your sleeping patterns which will help reduce your stress levels greatly.

A Hypnotherapy session will quickly make you feel calmer and happier, getting you back to the 'real you'. Being relaxed and knowing how to cope with stress and challenging situations will allow you to approach the future in a calmer and more confident way.

Getting back to the 'real' you

You can just imagine yourself now with the feeling of this renewed energy and confidence. With this, you will begin to enjoy those little things in life such as meeting up with a friend for a coffee, going shopping or spending time with your family; just like you used to.

When you feel more relaxed you will also be able to put up boundaries and set yourself limits so you don't have to deal with a breakdown again. As you start to feel calmer, things you currently find difficult to do will slowly become easier.

Just remember that right now you have just gone off track slightly and you just need to stop for a while to return back to the 'real you'. With this rest and revitalisation you will begin to see a brighter future.

After a session with me you will notice how quickly life regains its color.

Important: A nervous breakdown is a serious condition. Hypnotherapy is designed to supplement, not replace, treatment from a suitable medical practitioner.

How to Break Down Your Stress to Get Rid of It

stress.png with kimberley stapleton mind body soul spirit

How to Break Down Your Stress to Get Rid of It

When most of us are stressed, it is for a reason. We are stressed for instance because of our work, because of a deadline or because of debt. Knowing what is causing the stress helps us to at least contextualise it and gives us hope that someday we might escape its clutches, but for many of us that is not enough.

But if you break that stress down further and if you really get to know it, then you might just find that it starts to come apart and that it becomes much more manageable.

Make Your Stress Smaller

The trick is to break down your stress into specific things – into manageable chunks that you can deal with and then to deal with the constituent parts.

So let’s take a look at one of the biggest culprits: work. If your main stressor is work, then chances are that you can break this down further to identify precisely what it is about work that stresses you out. Here are some examples of aspects of our jobs that make us stressed:

💜        Looming deadlines

💕       Angry bosses

💜        Unpleasant colleagues

💕       Uncomfortable workspaces

💜        Busy, long commutes

💕       Things you would rather be doing

💜        Wearing work clothes

💕        Making calls

💜       Speaking in public

💕       Having too much to do

All these things can make us feel stressed about our jobs and most likely there are a number of these things playing on your mind.

But now you’ve broken it all down and you know the specifics, you should find it becomes much easier to start dealing with the problems individually.

So for instance: if you have a colleague you don’t like, you could ask to be moved to another part of the office. Likewise, if your workspace is uncomfortable, you could speak to HR about getting a new chair, or you could put a plant on your desk. Don’t like the long commute? How about looking into a lift share, or finding an alternative route. Workload too big? Then again, speak to someone and ask to have it shared!

Likewise, you might find that other ‘big’ stresses in your life can be made easier when you break them down into their smaller constituents. Stressed about debt? Then perhaps one aspect of that is not being able to afford things – in which case writing a budget could help. Another aspect could be worrying about your credit score, in which case you could talk to your bank manager or a debt advisor.

Dealing With Stress

Dealing with Stress.png with kimberley stapleton mind body soul spirit

One Day to Combat Stress

Feeling as though life is getting on top of you? Don’t worry! That’s quite a normal way to feel and according to the statistics, actually a great proportion of us have these feelings a lot of the time.

However, the good news is that you can overcome this stress if you’re willing to just take a break. The problem that many people don’t realise, is that they’re often actually addicted to stress. They don’t like being stressed but at the same time, they can’t help it.

You know that you’re addicted to stress if you find yourself constantly staying late at work, constantly taking on more jobs and feeling awkward or bored when you try relaxing. Sound familiar? If only you would take a break and make it a real break, then you could probably overcome that stress.

Why?

Because you could use that one day to put your life in order and to close all your ‘open loops’.

Low Level Stress

While most of us have a few ‘big sources’ of stress, we should be able to cope with these if we could just focus on them. For instance, many of us are stressed by work or by our relationships – but this is still just ‘one source’ of stress and as such should not be crippling.

The problem is that we often have so many other additional sources of stress along with those big ones. For instance, many of us will have calls we need to make, people we need to e-mail and tidying to do. Often we have bills that need paying, admin that needs doing, clothes we need to buy for upcoming events…

The point is, most of us have a huge list of things we need to be doing and this is what makes it so hard for us to cope with the bigger things. This is what makes it feel like we’re filled to brim and like we just can’t manage with everything that’s going on.

These smaller things don’t get done either because we’re tired, because we’re stressed and because our spare time is taken up with those few ‘big’ things.

And this is where the ‘one day’ comes in. Take one day off of work, on your own, and dedicate it to getting everything else straight. That means tidying the house, it means catching up on correspondence, it means sorting out admin – it means doing all those small things that are causing you stress.

Do this, and suddenly life becomes much easier!

Transform a stressful christmas into a relaxed one

xmas stress.png with kimberley stapleton mind body soul spirit

Survive the festive season with relaxing Hypnotherapy

Christmas is a meant to be a time of togetherness with family, fun, joy and selfless thought towards others. But so often Christmas can just seem like another major life stress. Why should this be?

What makes Christmas stressful?

First there's the preparation, the shopping in frenzied, crowded stores people pushing and shoving and you worrying whether so and so will like the present you've bought them. Then there's the cooking and organising and of course the financial strain that the extra cost of Christmas entails. Many of us get seriously in debt (or more in debt) after the Christmas holiday. But the biggest stress of Christmas comes from the very essence of what Christmas is supposed to be all about - other people.

The nightmare before, during and after Christmas

The biggest stress of Christmas can come from the friction caused by family members getting together over the festive season. You may feel like a referee as relatives battle, argue and fight there way through what is meant to be an enjoyable time. You may end up dreading Christmas and of course the more you dread Christmas the more likely you are to get really stressed out by Christmas.

Why do we become stressed by Christmas?

We become stressed by anything that seems to exceed our ability to cope and causes stress hormone levels to rise in our bloodstream. A Hypnotherapy session will relax you deeply and prepare your mind to feel calm about the prospect of Christmas. You'll find yourself feeling more relaxed during the holiday season and actually enjoying Christmas.

Reduce Everyday Stress with Hypnotherapy

everydaystress.png

Create islands of calm in your day with a gentle, permissive Hypnotherapy session

Are you wondering why you feel stressed or anxious when there doesn't seem to be any major reason for it?

Do you find yourself getting tense, sleeping badly, and feeling irritable a lot of the time, even though outwardly things appear to be okay?

When we look at other people, it often seems that things are going pretty smoothly for them. Maybe other people have said this about you - commented on the 'good life' that you seem to have.

And maybe it's even true that, overall, things are more or less okay, or even very good. So it feels very unfair - and a bit of mystery - if you find that you are constantly stressed.

If you could find a real 'cause' to pin it on, you might feel better about it. If there was a big personal problem, like a bereavement, or a divorce, or trouble at work, the sort of thing that everyone agrees is stressful.

But if you feel you 'really have nothing to complain about', you begin to wonder what on earth is going on.

The truth about the stress of ordinary life

The truth is, stress isn't all about the big stuff. Stress is a spectrum, not an on/off switch. At any time, a range of different pressures may be affecting your life, and all to a different degree.

If they are at the lower end of the spectrum, but there are a lot of them, the cumulative effect can be as great as if a single one of the 'big beasts' is rampaging about in your life.

This is why everyday stress levels can build up without you noticing. It's just a little bit here, a little bit there - but it all wears away at you.

And it deserves to be taken as seriously as you would take major stress. That is, you need to look after yourself - no matter how good your life looks on the outside.

If You feel a Hypnotherapy session could maybe help you to

feel much calmer and more relaxed generally

  • you sleep better

  • your mood improves and you feel more cheerful and optimistic

  • you are more resilient and can handle things better

  • you are enjoying life more

Nine Ways to De-Stress

de-stress-your life.jpg

It’s become almost a cliché—modern life is often fraught with stress, and almost everyone is ironically too busy to deal with it. It can be easy to excuse it away and say that we work best under stress, that stress is a great motivator. This is partly true; the good type of stress, known as “eustress” helps us seize the moment, and invigorates us to achieve a tangible goal.

On the flip side, there is also bad stress, called “distress”, that can be harmful in the long run. When we face either type of stress in our daily lives, our bodies respond by secreting a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is useful to help us react to temporary stress, like the stress caused by deadlines. But scientists say that too much cortisol can cause weight gain, negative emotions, joint discomfort, and more.

Unfortunately anxious feelings and stressful situations are not going to simply disappear. This is where dealing with our stress becomes a priority. Managing a lot of daily stress comes down to some simple and quick solutions listed below. While this list is not comprehensive, it is a start in helping you identify ways to help yourself. We recommend that you pick the easiest solutions for you, and then practice them on a daily basis or whenever you feel the need.

  1. In any situation, take two minutes to breathe. We’re not just talking about trying to breathe deeply in and out here, though that is the start of it. Improve on this idea by using the 4–7–8 breathing exercise. Breathing only through your nose, count to four as you deeply inhale, then count to seven as you hold your breath, and count to eight as you exhale. Repeat the cycle three more times. This should take around two minutes to complete. This will help you focus on your body and help you breathe more deeply on a regular basis without even needing to think about it.

  2. Drink herbal tea. If you’ve never tried herbal tea, now might be a good time to give it a try for some stress relief. Teas like lemon balm, peppermint, chamomile, or passion flower are helpful. You can incorporate essential oils into your tea as well—infuse a drop of essential oils like Roman Chamomile, Lavender, or Melissa into herbal teas like chamomile to soothe the body and mind.* Just the act of drinking warm tea can also be soothing and relaxing and just the boost you need for the day.

  3. Get outside in the fresh air. Although this is easier to do when the weather is nice, even when the weather is not ideal, it is a good idea to at least get a few minutes of fresh air each day and get your body moving. Reconnecting to the outside world and nature can help you refocus and feel better. If you can’t go outside in this moment, reach for Vetiver. Its calming and grounding effect on emotions is great to diffuse, or to put directly in your palms, cup your hands around your nose, and inhale.

  4. Exercise for at least for 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Exercise is known to bump up the level of endorphin production, improves your mood, and helps you move past the day’s irritations.

  5. Set out 10 minutes in the morning for meditation. In yoga specifically, meditating is about being grounded physically and mentally, and coming to an expanded state of awareness. You can start meditating by choosing a consistent time and place, and then picking something to focus on for that session. (Examples of different focuses include a helpful intention or affirmation like “I am relaxed”, counting your breath as in point number one, or visualizing your favorite spot in nature and trying to keep your focus on that only.) Don’t be discouraged if your mind starts to wander, just refocus back on your purpose. You can also increase the effects of mediation by diffusing calming oils like Frankincense while you practice. There are many other ways to meditate, try different kinds before you determine how to incorporate it into your daily life.

  6. Give yourself a hand massage. According to a 2008 study published by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, a five-minute hand massage can lower stress levels. If you can’t find anyone to give you one, you can massage your own hands. To reduce the effects of daily stress, put a drop of Ylang Ylang or AromaTouch® and some Fractionated Coconut Oil into your palms and massage your hand slowly.

  7. Apply PastTense® or doTERRA Peace®. Because PastTense comes in a roll-on bottle, this grounding and soothing blend is convenient and easy to use. (doTERRA Peace also comes in a roll-on version that is equally as easy.) You can apply either blend to your temples, wrists, or the back of your neck in times when you need to quickly ease stressful or anxious feelings on the go.

  8. Ensure that you get enough sleep. Dr. David K. Hill, doTERRA Chief Medical Advisor, insists that, “Sufficient amounts of rest provide bodies with an opportunity to recover from the day’s activity, improve energy levels, and reduce the effects of stress.” If you currently struggle with falling asleep, diffuse doTERRA Serenity® about 30 minutes before you go to bed, or take doTERRA Serenity® Softgels.

  9. Generate a support system. This may be our most important tip, because even though it can be hard to reach out to others when you feel overwhelmed, sometimes it is necessary to depend on other people for help. Don’t try to keep going alone. Even if the stress is over something that you feel you have to do alone, at least having someone there to listen or give you a hug (which is proven to help with stress on its own) can help more than you realize.
