WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a spiritual and physical healing practice that helps individuals overcome health issues and produce stress management in their lives. Reiki has been used for healing since the end of the last century, but is still growing in popularity today. Listed below are the steps to take if you desire to learn Reiki and become a Reiki Master.

There are three levels of Reiki that must be completed in order to become a Reiki Master. These are the First Degree level, the Second Degree level, and the Master/Teacher, or Third Degree, level. Each level is explained below.

First Degree Reiki

In the First Degree level of Reiki, you’ll learn how Reiki works, Reiki’s historical background, and the different types of Reiki systems that exist today. You’ll also need to be initiated into Reiki and receive your first Reiki energy experience through Reiki Attunement. ( Please see other listings for attunements)

Second Degree Reiki

In the Second Degree level of Reiki, you’ll expand on your initial experiences. You’ll learn about distance healing as well. Distance healing involves channeling Reiki energies to someone in another town or even another country! The energy vibration is different with this type of Reiki. It has a higher proportion of energy from the Source and a lower proportion of Chi than the First Degree level. Where the First Degree level promotes primarily physical healing, the Second Degree level promotes healing on a mental, spiritual and emotional level.

Master/Teacher Reiki or Third Degree Level

In the Master/Teacher, or Third Degree, level of Reiki, you’ll learn how to use Reiki symbols and what they mean. You’ll also learn how to use various methods of stress management such as healing drumming and crystal healing with crystals. You’ll become familiar with sacred mantras and how the different energies work so you can teach others. You’ll also be able to perform Reiki Attunements.

What Are The Differences Between A Treatment & An Attunement ?

Mind body soul spirit What is the difference between a treatment and an attunement

When you start learning about energy healing, it can be confusing … you will come across two ways of accessing or receiving energy for healing purposes. The two main methods are either via an attunement (What Are Attunements?) or during an energy healing treatment.

Both attunements and treatments provide different ways to gain access to and benefits from energies that can be used for energy healing. Both methods have certain advantages and uses.

But what are the differences between an attunement and a treatment?

It can be confusing however here’s a simple explanation.

Attunements Treatments

  • Receive the energies once during the treatment.

  • You do not do anything. The practitioner acts as a channel.

  • You can't re access the energy by yourself following your treatment.

  • You have no learning requirement.

  • You can't teach others how to use and access the energies.

  • You do not get the lineage or a certificate.

  • Sometimes treatments are best when you can't work on yourself.

  • Can be received in person or remotely

  • You have permanent access to the energy for use on yourself or others.

  • You must activate the energy following the attunement ( by following instructions usually in a short manual)

  • You learn how to use the energies. So you can pass on or treat yourself & others.

  • Most attunements you can teach and attune others to it.

  • You get the lineage or a certificate of completion.

  • You may be able to use the energies on yourself and others in a personal or professional capacity.

  • Can be received in person or remotely

What Is Reiki ?

mind body soul spirit holistic health and wellness what is reiki

Hi and Welcome,

Even if you don’t know what it is, you have probably heard of the word Reiki.

Maybe you’re considering reiki but aren’t sure whether it’s right for you. Or maybe your doctor has suggested reiki as a form of therapy complementary to your existing medical treatments. Whatever your questions, I’m (Reiki Master Kimberley Stapleton,) here to help. I’ll walk you through the basics of reiki

See my Reiki Treatments Here >>

In A Nutshell

Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of natural hands-on, energy-based, high vibrational energy healing force that is transmitted through a practitioner, who must be trained and attuned to that energy. When that energy moves from the universe, through the practitioner, into you, you are best set up into natural healing

Reiki, is arguably one of the most well known and popular types of energy healing modalities currently practised. However, what is Reiki?

What Is Reiki?

A little history

Mikao Usui developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Now, reiki is used all over the world, including in hospitals and hospices, to complement other forms of health treatments.

“Reiki aids in healing by helping people become energetically balanced — physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually,”

To understand what Reiki is, it is essential to know that Reiki has two meanings depending on how you use the word.

  1. Reiki is Universal Life Force, which is the energy of life itself.

  2. Reiki is an energy healing system or practice that gives you structure and techniques so you can access and use the Universal Life Force.

So depending on how you use the word, Reiki is either a type of energy or a specific practice.

Reiki Energy

Reiki is Universal Life Force that sustains all of life. This energy is everywhere and is part of everything around you. It is you. To learn more about this see energy healing

How does reiki work?

Reiki is a simple technique that aims to allow you to connect with and use Universal life Force in a structured way with the aim of relieving stress and bringing about healing and transformation to your life.

Reiki practitioners act as a conduit between you and the source of the universal life force energy. The energy flows through the practitioner to you.

Reiki differs from other touch therapies in that there is no pressure, massage or manipulation involved.

A Japanese Buddhist called Dr Mikao Usui developed the Reiki system of healing at the turn of the twentieth century. Having discovered information in Buddhist Sanskrit texts from Tibet, it is clear that Universal Life Force has been used for healing purposes since ancient times.

Despite the background of the founder, Reiki is not a religion and requires no particular faith or belief system. It is non-denominational and can be used in conjunction with any belief system or none. All you need to practice Reiki is openness and willingness to access the energies.

A Reiki practitioner, acts as a facilitator or conduit for the Universal Life Force energy. During a treatment, the Universal Life Force energy will flow through the practitioner to you.

If you are receiving a Reiki treatment from a Reiki practitioner, all you need to do is be willing to accept the energy. Once the treatment session has started, the energy is drawn to wherever it is needed within you. Reiki energy is intuitive. This could be on the physical, emotional, mental or spiritual level. It is important to note that you can only draw in as much Universal Life Force energy as is needed. You will not receive more energy than is comfortable.

What happens during a reiki session?

  • Reiki differs from other touch therapies in that there is no pressure, massage or manipulation involved.

  • Reiki treatments can be received either in person or by distance and typically last about 50 minutes.

In Person Treatments:

During a session, you’ll lie on a massage table fully clothed, as your reiki practitioner gently places their hands, palms down, on or just above your body in specific energy locations. They use a series of 12 to 15 different hand positions.

Distant Reiki

Distant Reiki sessions work because energy is not limited by distance. Distance is only a physical limitation, so sessions can be done without clients being physically present. We are all connected, as we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole.

A distant healing session can be done in a number of ways. The practitioner can use a proxy, use visualization, or use a projection of Reiki to send Reiki energy to someone else. The distant Reiki symbol joins the Reiki practitioner and the client together in a sacred healing space.

To receive distant Reiki healing you don’t have to do anything special, but it’s best to lie down and be still if possible. The healer & yourself normally agree on a time beforehand and you will simply needs to relax … sit or lie down for the specified amount of time

What does reiki feel like?

“You may experience the energy in the form of sensations like heat, tingling or pulsing where the Reiki practitioner has placed their hands, Sometimes, people feel sensations moving throughout the body, while other people do not perceive any change at all.”

Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful during reiki treatment, and many fall asleep during the process.

Reiki may be beneficial in helping support a large variety of symptoms and conditions. However, you do not need to be ill to benefit from Reiki. Reiki may also be effective at helping you relax and assisting with stress management. Most Reiki practitioners will give themselves a treatment every day to ensure optimal health, not just when they are ill.

Learning Reiki

Who Can Learn Reiki? Are There Prerequisites?

Anyone can learn to use Reiki; all you need is an open heart and mind.

If you feel guided to practice Reiki on others, you should have compassion, professionalism and a desire to be of service and be committed to your self-development.

Intellectual capability or the level of your spiritual growth does not restrict learning Reiki.

What Is A Reiki Attunement?

Unlike other healing arts, reiki is passed from master to student through a reiki attunement that allows the student to connect to the universal reiki source. The attunement allows you to become a vessel of reiki, and move reiki energy for yourself and others. While you can read about reiki in a book and learn hand positions, until you have been attuned to channel reiki, you cannot truly practice reiki.

Reiki uses the process of attunements to connect practitioners & clients permanently and profoundly to the Universal Life Force.

A good way of thinking about this is to compare the attunement process to tuning in an old-fashioned radio. When you turn the dial, you can hear the static of the radio frequencies. When you tune into a specific frequency that is being used to transmit on you, then have a clear broadcast, with no static, on that radio channel. In much the same way an attunement tunes you into the Universal Life Force.

Reiki Attunements are a gentle form of energy healing originating from Japan. Over time, as healers have worked with Reiki, or universal life force energy, we have discovered various streams or frequencies of the energy that can help with specific issues that we face in our day to day modern lives and have developed new attunements to access these more specific energy streams.

Different Types Of Reiki Modalities

One of the great things about Reiki is that it is always evolving and developing. This has lead to an explosion of different types of Reiki, each with their way of practising and often with new kinds of energy combinations.

The practice of Reiki as mentioned in this post refers to the Japanese form that was developed by Dr Mikao Usui. This is the ‘traditional’ form of Reiki, but this should not put you off from many of the newer forms of Reiki. Although from a practical point they may not be 'traditional' Reiki, they will still include Universal Life Force energy.

No form of Reiki is better than the other. They all offer something different and should not be judged as being superior or inferior. Energy is energy after all.

What Type Of Reiki Should I Choose?

Deciding on the right Reiki modality is a personal choice. When making your decision, things to consider are:

  1. Always use and listen to your intuition. If it doesn’t feel right for you, then it is not correct. Don’t force it, instead look for a different modality that feels like a better fit.

  2. Some types of Reiki offer a complete grounding in energy healing. These courses are often a good starting point for beginners.

  3. Be honest with yourself about what you want to get out of the course. If you are unlikely to be able to put aside the time each day for traditional Reiki practices, then perhaps the newer forms of Reiki are a better fit.

Remember it’s all about the journey, so try not to worry or stress about what the initial first choice should be.

As a rule of thumb, I would suggest the more traditional Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho if you want structure and a set formula to work with Reiki. If you want more freedom and a quick and straightforward way of using Reiki, then I highly recommend Mind Body Soul Spirit Reiki

How Do I Know Which Reiki Teacher Is Right For Me?

When choosing a Reiki Master/Teacher, you should be looking for someone who is professional, knowledgeable, encouraging, kind and loving.

Your needs and spiritual growth are what is essential and not the needs of the teacher.

Your intuition is fundamental when selecting a teacher. If a new potential teacher doesn’t feel right, then don’t force it. Try and find someone else who is a better fit for you both professionally and energetically.

I Have Made My Decision, What Can I Expect?

Once you have decided on which Reiki to learn and selected a teacher, you may be embarking on a truly beautiful path.

When you start learning Reiki and energy healing, you can expect to be challenged. You may notice that some ideas, thought patterns and even some people in your life are no longer serving you. You may start to experience personal healings in your life and be guided to make changes that enhance your health and well-being. The path may not always be easy, but the results will be worth it.

Reiki aims to offer a wonderful tool that may be able to help you on your spiritual path. It is not uncommon to decide to change the path you are on and even to help and serve people in different ways to achieve their fullest potential in life.

What Is Energy Medicine?

what is energy medicine mind body soul spirit academy.png

The human body is surrounded by and emits various kinds of energy: electrical, magnetic, light, and subtle. This is called your energetic body.

Your energetic body has a crucial role to play towards your wellbeing journey. Our energetic bodies are intertwined with our physical bodies. All the traumas we carry physically, emotionally and psychologically impact the functionality of our energy systems and vice versa.

Energy medicine

it is a field of holistic complementary therapy based on the interactions of the human energy field ( your energetic body) with other energy fields (human or other) and addresses the illness caused due to disturbance of the energy flow in and around your body. It is believed that when your energy flow is healed and balanced , you achieve ultimate wellness. There are different types of energy healing techniques, which can be used independently or combined.

Energy Medicine includes a variety of holistic healing modalities like: Reiki Energy Healing, Light Therapy, Acupuncture, Reflexology, Thai Massage, Tapping, universal light, quantum healing, and more.

Energy healing

To maintain vibrant health, the body needs its energies to have energetic space to flow freely throughout the body. When energies become blocked because of traumas, toxins, prolonged stress and muscular constrictions, it creates disturbances in the energy flow in our bodies, which over time contributes to mental, emotional issues and/or ailments and physical disease.

Energy Healing is a traditional holistic system where healers channel universal life force (or healing energy) to a specific person ( or group of people) to help restore the balance and flow of energy throughout the various levels of mind, body and soul energy and thus heal and remove blockages in the energy fields.

Flow, balance, harmony and vitality within the body can be restored and maintained during a treatment.

These techniques are tuned to work directly on different levels ( frequencies) of the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of well-being. So they can specifically target problems with flow and balance.

Energy healing is based on scientific principles.

Everything in this universe is composed of molecules that are vibrating at various frequencies. The molecules located within our bodies are constantly vibrating and radiating positive or negative, balanced or unbalanced, opened or closed frequencies. When our organs are misaligned energetically and radiating low-vibrational frequencies, it can materialize into physical ailments, like pains, sickness and disease.

  • The human body is surrounded by and emits various kinds of energy: electrical, magnetic, light, and subtle.

  • Health and disease appear to be related to the flow or lack of flow of our energetic systems.

  • Modern quantum physics provides the framework for energy medicine. Einstein demonstrated that matter and energy are interchangeable and therefore our bodies are energy.

  • the universe becomes a dynamic web of inseparable energy patterns, and the classic idea of analyzing the world by separate, independent parts becomes less plausible.

  • Therapeutic touch, healing touch, Reiki are probably the most commonly used energy healing modalities, and all of these involve a practitioner who assesses the client’s energy field and then rebalances it using a variety of techniques.

     Is Energy Medicine Spiritual?

There is often a misconception that you need to be spiritual to be open and receptive to energy healing. Energy healing is readily available to everyone who is interested and wiling to receive it.

  • You don’t need to be spiritual or hypersensitive to energies to benefit from an energy healing treatment. As humans (just like every living being), we all have an energetic body that needs to be balanced and taken care of regularly.

  • Some energy medicine modalities, like reiki treatments, transcend time and space. Therefore, you don’t have to be located in the same room, city or even country as your energy healer to receive and benefit from energy healing treatment.

  • Entering the world of your body's subtle energies is a bridge into the domain of your deepest spiritual callings and your eternal essence. While no particular belief system, allegiance, or religious affiliation is associated with Energy Medicine, many people find that energy work touches into the realms of soul and spirit.

Here are the 5 most important types of energy healing techniques:

Reiki Healing: The word Reiki is made from two Japanese words called- 'Rei' meaning "God’s wisdom" and Ki meaning “energy”. This therapy is provided to a person along with traditional medicine to cure an illness. In this therapy 'ki' or the energy is used to help others. Lots of hand movement techniques and specific symbols are used to channelize the energy of the universe to heal the body. Reiki is best know for helping to cure ailments like cold, flu, head and stomach aches. It is also quite effective in serious illnesses such as heart disease and can work on all levels, mental, emotional, physical, soul & spiritual.

    Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is all about using the body’s life force to heal the body energy. This therapy works specifically on the energy of the body or aura of a person. In this therapy, energy is used to clean the toxic from the body, thus accelerating the healing physical process.

    Crystal Healing
Stones and crystals are used in this healing process to draw out impurities from the body. These stones and crystals work differently on the body and target different kinds of physical, emotional and spiritual problems. They repel negative energy from the body, which disturbs the mental and physical well-being.

    Quantum Healing

Quantum healing therapy is based on the principle of resonance and entertainment. The energy level in the body is escalated through breathing and visualization of energy flow. Quantum Healing is not only a spiritual thing, but it also directs positive effects on the immune system.

    Qigong
Qigong therapy is used to regain the lost balance of the body. With the history of some 4,000 years, Qigong is comprised of coordinated movements of the body along with breathing, and meditation to stimulates health and spirituality. The therapy has its root in Chinese medicine and is said to balance the positive energy of the body, which is required to stay healthy.

Other techniques: Light Therapy, Acupuncture, Reflexology, Thai Massage, Tapping, sound healing, acupuncture, yoga, kinesiology, and qi gong and more.
